This bill establishes a limitation on the annual salary of division superintendents, who are the chief executive officers of local school divisions, by prohibiting any school board from paying, agreeing to, or entering into a contract to pay, or otherwise compensating a division superintendent an annual salary that exceeds the amount authorized for the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the state's chief education official. The bill defines "annual salary" broadly to include all fixed total compensation for services in a 52-week year, encompassing bonuses, incentive payments, deferred compensation like retirement enhancements and severance, and any other financial benefits or remuneration from the school board that functions as salary, regardless of its label or structure, but it excludes reasonable, documented expense allowances such as travel or technology stipends. These provisions will take effect for any contract or renegotiated contract for a division superintendent agreed to by a school board on or after January 1, 2027.
