This bill amends existing Mississippi law to allow certain dental hygienists to practice under general supervision, meaning a dentist doesn't need to be physically present, without meeting all the usual requirements. Specifically, dental hygienists employed by the State Board of Health or public school boards can provide oral hygiene instruction and screening, including applying fluoride varnishes, under general supervision. Additionally, dental hygienists giving public demonstrations of dental hygiene for educational purposes can also do so under general supervision. This change aims to expand access to preventive oral health services in specific public settings and for educational outreach.
