This bill establishes protections against evictions during periods of extreme weather conditions in Kentucky. It defines "extreme weather conditions" to include days with an official Extreme Cold Warning or Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service, or any natural disaster that results in a declared state of emergency. During these times, courts are required to temporarily halt, or "stay," the execution of a warrant of restitution, which is a court order allowing a landlord to regain possession of a property. Once the extreme weather ends, the execution of any stayed warrant of restitution must be prioritized and completed within three days. The bill also amends existing law to ensure that this new provision regarding extreme weather conditions is considered when issuing warrants of restitution.
