The Autism Competencies Checklist is a tool used to ensure that professionals working with individuals with autism have the necessary skills and knowledge. The key change proposed is to permit "positive behavior support facilitators" to lead training sessions on these competencies. These facilitators will now be authorized to train "direct support professionals" and "direct support professional supervisors," who are individuals providing hands-on assistance and oversight to people with developmental disabilities, including those with autism.
