This bill authorizes pharmacists in Mississippi to dispense albendazole and mebendazole, which are medications used to treat parasitic worm infections, without a prescription from a doctor or other licensed health care provider. This change is intended to make these medications more accessible, and pharmacists will be required to follow standardized procedures or protocols established by the State Board of Pharmacy, which may include providing instructions on proper use. Importantly, pharmacists who dispense these medications in a reasonably prudent manner according to these guidelines will be protected from criminal or civil liability and professional disciplinary action. The State Board of Pharmacy is empowered to create any necessary rules to implement this new law, which will take effect on July 1, 2026.
