This bill establishes a "parole reinstitution work group" to study and make recommendations on how to bring back parole in Washington state. The group will be made up of representatives from various legal and victim advocacy groups, as well as individuals appointed through a specific state process, and will receive staff support from the William D. Ruckelshaus center. Their main tasks will be to suggest a comprehensive plan for reinstituting parole and to develop criteria for who would be eligible for parole. The work group is required to report its findings and recommendations to the legislature by October 1, 2027, and this section of the law will expire on December 31, 2027.
