This bill amends Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) to address the regulation of cultured meat products. Specifically, it removes language that would have deemed meat or a meat product containing cultured animal tissue as "misbranded," meaning it would no longer be considered falsely or misleadingly labeled under KRS 217.035. However, the bill simultaneously adds a new provision to KRS 217.175 that prohibits the manufacture, sale, or exchange of any meat or meat product containing cultured animal tissue, which is defined as animal tissue produced from in vitro animal cell cultures outside of the original organism. In essence, while cultured meat would no longer be considered misbranded, its production and sale would be explicitly forbidden in Kentucky.
