This bill appropriates $175,000,000 from the state general fund to the Arizona Department of Transportation (DOT) for fiscal year 2026-2027 to fund specific safety and capacity improvements on State Route 260 between milepost 200 and milepost 346. These improvements include widening the roadway to four lanes where possible, expanding shoulders and modernizing guardrails, implementing measures to prevent wildlife from being struck by vehicles such as fencing and crossings, and upgrading drainage and slope stabilization systems. The DOT will prioritize these projects based on factors like crash data, traffic volume, emergency response needs, economic impact, and engineering feasibility. The DOT is required to submit an annual report detailing project progress, expenditures, safety data, and any funding issues to legislative committees and the secretary of state, and will also maintain a public dashboard for each project. The appropriation is exempt from standard lapsing rules until June 30, 2036, at which point this section of the bill will be repealed.
