This bill establishes the Washington State Commercial Truck Safety and Education Council, a new body housed within the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, to address safety concerns within the commercial trucking industry. To fund these initiatives, the bill increases the commercial vehicle safety enforcement fee from $16 to $32, with the collected funds now being split equally between the State Patrol Highway Account and a newly created Commercial Truck Safety and Education Account, from which the council's recommended activities and administrative costs will be paid. The council is mandated to meet at least quarterly and will report its findings and recommendations annually to the legislature.
