This resolution designates February 14, 2026, as Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Day. CHDs are the most common type of birth defect, affecting about 1 in every 100 babies, and are structural problems with the heart present at birth that can range from mild to life-threatening. The resolution highlights the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for CHDs, as many individuals require lifelong care, and emphasizes that raising awareness helps ensure these individuals receive necessary support, fosters community understanding, reduces stigma, and promotes inclusion. The policy of the House of Representatives is to recognize and bring awareness to important health matters affecting Mississippians, celebrate those living with CHDs, and promote early detection and ongoing care. Copies of this resolution will be sent to the Capitol Press Corps.
