AI Summary
This bill requires health insurance plans to cover early refills of prescription eye drops under certain conditions, preventing health carriers from denying coverage if the eye drops are a covered benefit, if at least 85% of the previous prescription would have been used by the time of the early refill, and if the prescriber confirms the additional quantity is medically necessary. "Health carrier" refers to the insurance company or similar entity providing the health benefit plan, and a "covered person" is an individual enrolled in that plan. This provision aims to ensure patients can obtain necessary medication without undue delay, especially for chronic conditions requiring consistent treatment, and will apply to insurance policies issued or renewed in Virginia starting January 1, 2027.
