This bill modifies existing Oklahoma law regarding sexual assault evidence kits, shortening the timeframe for law enforcement agencies to submit these kits to accredited crime laboratories for forensic testing from twenty (20) days to ten (10) days after receipt, unless the victim requests otherwise or a report of the assault is not made at the time of examination, in which case the submission deadline is also ten (10) days from the victim's future request for testing. The bill also mandates that collected sexual assault evidence kits, from the effective date of the act forward, must be processed by the crime laboratory within thirty (30) days of their submission, and it updates the coordinating body for developing guidelines from the "Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Task Force" to the "SAFE Board" (Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Board), with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) retaining the ability to inquire about kits not submitted within the established deadlines.
