This bill amends Alabama law to remove the requirement for permanently and totally disabled veterans, who have already qualified for a homestead exemption (a property tax exemption for a primary residence), to annually re-verify their eligibility. Previously, even those with a permanent disability status had to confirm their continuing eligibility each year. This change, effective October 1, 2026, simplifies the process for these veterans, meaning they will only need to apply once and will not be required to submit annual verification forms unless they die or establish a new primary residence.
