Furthermore, private employers are authorized to voluntarily adopt written veterans' preference employment policies, which can be offered to veterans, their spouses, and spouses of active duty service members, with specific limitations on the preference for spouses of active duty service members. Employers adopting such policies must notify the Alabama Department of Workforce, which will maintain a public registry of these employers on its website. The bill is set to become effective on October 1, 2026.
