This resolution congratulates the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) on its 50th anniversary, recognizing its founding in 1976 by several park districts to provide recreational and leisure opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The WDSRA has grown significantly from its initial two programs to offering over 700 annually, serving nine park districts and enriching the lives of many. The association has received national recognition, including the Gold Medal for Excellence in Programming from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the National Sporting Goods Association, and was the first special recreation association to earn Distinguished Accredited Agency recognition from the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA). The resolution also highlights the WDSRA's expansion of programs like Rec & Roll for adults, its commitment to year-round innovative programming for all ages, its focus on inclusion by supporting participation in regular park district programs, and its ongoing mission to enrich lives and foster a sense of belonging. Finally, it resolves to present a copy of this resolution to the WDSRA as a symbol of respect and esteem.
