This bill expands educational benefits for eligible dependents of certain veterans by including graduate courses of study in a medical field, which encompasses professional physical and mental health care programs, allied health care programs, and health care administration programs, starting July 31, 2026. The bill also clarifies definitions within the existing law, such as defining "medical field" and updating references to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Importantly, while expanding benefits to graduate medical studies, the bill maintains the existing tuition cost limitations, ensuring that the total tuition charged does not exceed the in-state tuition rate of the qualifying school attended for those applying for benefits from the fall term of the 2014-2015 academic year onwards. The bill will become effective on January 1, 2028.
