This bill, amending the Nebraska Political Accountability and Disclosure Act, establishes a limit on how much money individuals can contribute to a candidate's campaign committee. Specifically, starting January 1, 2027, no single person can donate more than $3,500 to a candidate committee within a given election period, which is defined as the calendar year of the election. If a committee receives more than this amount from an individual, it must refund the excess within ten days and report the transaction. This limit does not apply to a candidate contributing their own personal funds to their campaign. Furthermore, beginning January 1, 2029, and every two years thereafter, this contribution limit will be adjusted to account for inflation, based on changes in the Consumer Price Index, and rounded to the nearest $100. The bill also repeals the original section it amends to harmonize the law.
