This bill requires the Washington State Employment Security Department to inform individuals applying for unemployment insurance benefits due to a strike that they might have to repay benefits if they later receive retroactive wages from their employer for the period they were on strike. This notice must be given when the worker applies for benefits and can be delivered through an online acknowledgment, a letter, or another method the department deems effective. The bill also includes a provision that if any part of the act conflicts with federal requirements for federal funding or unemployment tax credits, that part will be inoperative only to the extent of the conflict, ensuring the rest of the act remains in effect. This section of the law is set to expire on December 31, 2035.
