This bill strengthens regulations for fire protection sprinkler systems by requiring that work on these systems be performed by licensed contractors and certified fitters, with the state director of fire protection or their representatives investigating alleged violations. If a fire code official, defined as someone authorized by a local government or the state director to enforce fire regulations, requests proof of a license or certificate for work on a fire protection sprinkler system, the contractor or fitter must provide it, and failure to do so is an infraction. If a contractor or fitter is unlicensed or otherwise in violation, a fire code official can issue a stop work order until compliance is achieved, and may also order the removal and replacement of improperly installed systems if public safety is a concern. The bill also grants the director the authority to request payroll records related to investigations and amends existing law to include these provisions and penalties.
