Bill Summary

Photo speed monitoring devices; historic district segments. Permits a state or local law-enforcement agency to place and operate a photo speed monitoring device at a historic district segment, defined in the bill, located within the locality for the purpose of recording violations resulting from the operation of a vehicle in excess of the speed limit. The bill provides the same requirements for such devices, information collected from such devices, and any enforcement actions resulting from information collected from such devices as current law applies to the use of such devices in school crossing zones, highway work zones, and high-risk intersection segments.

AI Summary

This bill allows state or local law-enforcement agencies to use photo speed monitoring devices, which are cameras that record speeding vehicles, in designated historic district segments. A "historic district segment" is defined as a portion of a highway located within a historic district that has been officially recognized. The bill specifies that the same rules regarding the operation of these devices, the information they collect, and how violations are handled will apply to historic district segments as currently apply to school crossing zones, highway work zones, and high-risk intersection segments. A "high-risk intersection segment" is a section of highway near a school with a marked crosswalk where a traffic fatality has occurred since 2014. The bill also requires conspicuous signage to be placed within 1,000 feet of any historic district segment where these devices are used, indicating their presence.
