This bill establishes new employment rights in Utah concerning an employee's voluntary cooperation with law enforcement officers, defining "law enforcement agency" and "law enforcement officer" for this purpose. It prohibits employers from forcing employees or job applicants to cooperate with law enforcement or to refuse to cooperate unless legally required, and also forbids penalizing them for their cooperation, refusal to cooperate (unless legally mandated), or for stating their intent to either cooperate or refuse to cooperate. However, employers can still require employees to protect the employer's legal rights when interacting with law enforcement during work. Employees or applicants harmed by an employer's violation of these provisions can file a civil lawsuit seeking damages or other legal remedies, with the bill taking effect on May 6, 2026.
