This bill establishes a new section within chapter 43.70 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) to create comprehensive cancer education programs for students in grades six through twelve, contingent on available funding. School districts will have the option to participate and decide which grades to include in these programs, which are designed to be delivered in single class periods and align with existing health curricula, offering age-appropriate information on cancer prevention, risk reduction, and social-emotional resources. The state department will contract with a training entity that has a proven track record of delivering similar programs to youth in Washington, ensuring the funds are used to expand program offerings geographically and to ensure racial, ethnic, and Spanish-speaking student diversity. The selected entity may subcontract to meet demand and provide programs in Spanish, with all contracted entities held to the same standards. By December 1, 2027, the department must report to the governor and legislature on program delivery, student participation, and other relevant data.
