These changes would allow for the compensation of a direct support professional, a caregiver who provides assistance with daily living activities, to support individuals receiving these waiver services when they are in an acute care hospital. This support would be provided if the individual's service plan requires specific assistance, such as with communication, behavior stabilization, or intensive personal care, and this support is not otherwise available in the hospital setting. The bill specifies that this service would be available to waiver recipients aged 18 and older who are admitted to a hospital while living in certain types of residential settings like group homes, sponsored residential services, supported living, or receiving in-home support.
