This bill amends an existing law from 2009 that established a board of elections and registration for Bulloch County, Georgia, by increasing the number of board members from its current size to five. The bill outlines new procedures for appointing these five members: three will be appointed directly by the county's governing authority without nominations, while the other two will be appointed after the governing authority considers lists of nominees provided by the local executive committees of the two major political parties, based on their performance in the last gubernatorial election. The governing authority retains the discretion to reject all nominees from these lists if they deem them unsuitable. The bill also specifies how current board members will transition, sets initial one-year terms for the two newly appointed members starting in 2027, and establishes four-year terms for all future appointments, with provisions for filling vacancies. This Act will become effective for the appointment of new members on July 1, 2026, and for all other purposes on January 1, 2027.
