Bill Summary

This bill requires the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (commission) to allow a person with an expired standard basic driver's license to renew the person's standard basic driver's license without being required to re-take the written examination or the road test in certain circumstances. To be eligible for license renewal without being required to re-take the written examination or the road test, the person is required to produce documentation from certain medical professionals that demonstrates that the person has either a mental or a psychological condition that interferes with the person's ability to renew the person's license in person at a commission agency location. Additionally, for the person to be eligible for this license renewal process, the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is required to determine, based on the person's prior driving record, that the person can safely operate a motor vehicle.

AI Summary

This bill allows individuals in New Jersey with an expired standard basic driver's license to renew it without retaking the written test or road test if they have a mental or psychological condition that prevents them from renewing in person at a Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) agency, provided they submit documentation from a qualified medical professional and the Chief Administrator of the MVC determines they can still drive safely based on their driving history.
