This bill proposes to remove the requirement for deputy circuit clerks in Mississippi to provide a bond, which is a financial guarantee to protect against misconduct or financial loss. Previously, these deputy clerks had to take an oath of office and give a bond with sufficient surety, with the amount determined by a percentage of county taxes but not less than $50,000 or more than $100,000, to cover any money they handled. The bill amends Section 9-7-123 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to eliminate this bond requirement for deputy circuit clerks, while still allowing them to perform the duties of their principal, the circuit clerk.
