This bill expands the definition of "zone of safety" to include indoor and outdoor fairgrounds or rodeo arenas, and racetracks, in addition to existing locations like schools, childcare centers, parks, and the residences of sex crime victims. It clarifies that individuals convicted of sex offenses requiring registration under the Sex Offenders Registration Act, or similar offenses in other jurisdictions where the victim was a child under sixteen, are prohibited from loitering within 500 feet of these expanded zones of safety. The bill also defines "fairground," "park," "racetrack," and "rodeo arena" for the purposes of this law, and specifies an effective date of November 1, 2026.
