This bill directs several Virginia state agencies, including the Department of Social Services, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Department of Health, and the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, to form a work group. This group's primary task is to create a statewide survey to measure food insecurity and hunger, which is the condition of not having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. In developing this survey, the work group is instructed to collaborate with anti-hunger organizations to ensure the questions are relevant, especially considering the discontinuation of a federal report that previously provided such data. They are also to compare their survey design with those used in states that are similar to Virginia in population and diversity to create benchmarks for comparison. Finally, the work group must present its findings and the results of the survey to the Governor and the General Assembly by December 1, 2026.
