This bill establishes the Autism Advisory Board as a permanent agency within the executive branch of state government, replacing the current Autism Advisory Council which was set to expire. The Board will consist of 12 members: six legislative members appointed by the Senate Committee on Rules and the Speaker of the House of Delegates, and six non-legislative citizen members appointed by the Governor who have experience with autism spectrum disorders, advocacy, or related fields. The bill also outlines the Board's powers and duties, including conducting studies, formulating recommendations, and reporting annually. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services will provide staff support. The new Autism Advisory Board will have a sunset clause, expiring on July 1, 2029, and the terms of current Autism Advisory Council members will expire on July 1, 2026.
