This bill allows law enforcement officers in Tennessee to seize and impound vehicles used in drag racing or fleeing from law enforcement after a drag racing offense, but only in counties or municipalities that have passed a local ordinance or resolution specifically authorizing this action. These local ordinances must specify a minimum impoundment period of up to 120 hours before the vehicle can be released to its owner upon payment of towing and storage fees, and must also include a process for owners to challenge the seizure, impoundment, and any associated fines or fees. "Impound" means moving the vehicle to a designated storage lot, and "owner" refers to the legal titleholder or registered owner of the vehicle.
