This bill requires restaurants in Virginia to enhance food allergy awareness by mandating the posting of specific notices and including allergy notification phrases. The State Health Commissioner will create a notice, available on the Department of Health's website in English and the top six other languages spoken in Virginia, detailing procedures for restaurant staff to follow when a customer has a food allergy, including preventing cross-contact and responding to allergic reactions, with a recommendation to call emergency medical services when necessary. Restaurants must post this notice in a visible location for all food-handling employees, in languages spoken by their staff if those languages are among those for which the notice is provided. Additionally, restaurants must prominently display the phrase "If you have a food allergy, please notify us," along with its translation if applicable, on their menus or on a conspicuous sign, and if they have an online menu, they must also include this notification and a way for customers to indicate allergies.
