AI Summary

This bill establishes guidelines for the safe, ethical, and equitable use of artificial intelligence (AI) in public schools, defining AI as any machine-based system that can make predictions, recommendations, or decisions influencing environments. It mandates that the Board of Education, in consultation with relevant agencies and stakeholders, create and post public guidance on AI in instructional settings, covering student data privacy, transparency, bias prevention, clear protocols for AI use by teachers and students, equitable access, and parental transparency. This guidance must prioritize division-managed AI platforms, which are technology solutions managed by a school division with administrative oversight and safeguards against using school data for external AI model training. The bill also requires each school board to implement policies aligned with this guidance and establishes an AI Innovation in Education Pilot Program, funded by appropriations, to support and evaluate innovative AI uses in schools, with a reporting requirement to legislative committees on the program's progress and recommendations for future AI use in public education.
