AI Summary
This bill amends the Virginia Human Rights Act to extend employment protections to include reasonable accommodations for known limitations related to menopause, similar to existing protections for pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. This means employers with five or more employees must provide necessary workplace adjustments, such as modified schedules or assistance with manual labor, unless doing so would cause an "undue hardship" on the business, which considers factors like the employer's operations, workforce structure, financial resources, facility size, and the difficulty and cost of the accommodation. The bill also mandates that employers engage in a good-faith process to discuss accommodations and inform employees of their rights. Furthermore, it directs the Commissioners of Labor and Industry and Health to conduct a comprehensive study on menopause in the workforce, including current policies, best practices for accommodations, and related health care aspects, with a report due by July 1, 2028.
