This bill proposes to remove the requirement for motorcycle riders and passengers in West Virginia to wear protective helmets and eye protection, such as shatter-resistant eyeglasses or face shields, when operating or riding on motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, or mopeds. The bill amends existing law by deleting the sections that mandated the use of helmets meeting specific safety standards from organizations like the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), as well as the requirement for eye protection. The remaining provisions of the section, which address handlebar height, seating positions, rearview mirrors, and exemptions for enclosed autocycles, will still be in effect.
