This bill amends the Adult Protective Services Act by defining an "adult protective services official" as an employee of the department who develops and implements adult protective services, and establishes mandatory training requirements for these officials. Specifically, the bill mandates that all adult protective services officials must complete at least one hour of training on caring for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, with new employees needing to finish this training within their first day of employment and existing employees within thirty days of the bill's effective date. This training will cover various aspects, including recognizing behavioral symptoms, effective communication, safety concerns like wandering, reporting potential criminal behavior or neglect, identifying different types of abuse and self-neglect, and referral protocols to specialized care resources. Furthermore, officials will be required to complete this training every five years, and the department is permitted to partner with private nonprofit organizations with expertise in dementia care to deliver this training. The bill also repeals the original sections of the law that are being amended.
