This bill establishes a ten-year boat registration option for owners of certain boats, specifically those transported exclusively on a trailer that is registered in the state to the owner. To qualify for this extended registration, owners must provide proof of their trailer's registration and submit an affidavit confirming the boat is always transported on that trailer. They will pay a fee set by the commission only when applying for or renewing the ten-year registration, and upon approval, will receive a registration certificate and decals marked to indicate the ten-year validity. If, during the ten-year period, the owner no longer registers the qualifying trailer, the boat's registration will convert to an annual registration, expiring either at the end of the original ten-year period if less than a year remains, or on December 31st of the year the trailer was last registered to the owner if a year or more remained in the ten-year period. This new provision amends existing law, which previously mandated annual registration and validation decals for boats.
