This bill modifies the requirements for becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist associate and a licensed marriage and family therapist by adjusting the direct client contact hours needed. For marriage and family therapist associates, the bill changes the requirement from a supervised practicum and a year-long internship to a supervised internship or practicum within their graduate program that includes at least 300 hours of direct client contact. For licensed marriage and family therapists, the bill reduces the required postgraduate direct client contact hours from 2,000 to 1,500, with specific stipulations on how these hours are earned, including a minimum number of hours spent with couples, families, or groups. Additionally, the bill introduces a pathway for licensure by endorsement, allowing individuals already licensed as marriage and family therapists in another state for at least one year to obtain a license without an examination. This act will become effective immediately upon its passage.
