AI Summary
This bill amends Tennessee law to extend protections and guidelines regarding the use of pronouns to include honorifics, which are titles of respect like "Mr.," "Ms.," or "Dr." Specifically, it clarifies that the same immunities from legal action and disciplinary measures that apply to state entities, employees, and educational institutions when using a pronoun consistent with an individual's sex now also apply when using an honorific consistent with an individual's sex. This means that public schools, local education agencies (LEAs), and public higher education institutions, along with their students, faculty, and staff, are protected from liability if they use an honorific that aligns with an individual's sex, even if it's not that individual's preferred honorific. The bill also introduces requirements for obtaining parental consent before using a pronoun or honorific inconsistent with a minor student's sex in public schools.
