This bill requires all members of the Nebraska Legislature to complete a civics assessment within ninety days of taking their oath of office, with the assessment being the civics portion of the United States Naturalization Test or an equivalent designated by state officials. The Clerk of the Legislature will administer a twenty-question assessment, and while completion is mandatory, passing it is not, meaning it will not affect a member's ability to hold office or alter constitutional qualifications. The Clerk will certify each member's raw score to them, keeping individual responses confidential, but will publish each member's raw score on the Legislature's official website and include it in their public biography. Members who do not achieve a passing score will be invited to a voluntary civic literacy seminar.
