This bill, titled the "Restoring Private Schools Act of 2026," aims to reduce governmental oversight on private, parochial, or church schools by allowing their leadership to determine their own methods for instruction and student assessment, removing previous requirements for standardized testing and specific instructional term lengths. While private schools will still be subject to reasonable fire, health, and safety inspections and must comply with school bus safety regulations, they will no longer be mandated to observe a minimum instructional term of 900 hours, maintain specific attendance and immunization records for public inspection, or provide lists of enrolled students to county superintendents. The bill also eliminates the requirement for these schools to administer nationally normed standardized achievement tests and allows them to establish their own curriculum objectives and instructional programs, effectively granting them autonomy in educational standards and assessment.
