This bill amends provisions related to judges and justices in Utah's court system by increasing the number of district court judges in the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Judicial Districts by one each, expanding the Utah Supreme Court from five to seven justices, and increasing the number of judges on the Court of Appeals from seven to nine. It also establishes the office of an associate chief justice for the Supreme Court, who will be elected by the justices and receive additional compensation, and an associate presiding judge for the Court of Appeals, who will also receive additional compensation. Additionally, the bill modifies the process for filling judicial vacancies by adjusting recruitment periods and allowing for the delay of recruitment for a Court of Appeals vacancy if a Supreme Court vacancy occurs simultaneously, and it specifies the effective date of these changes.
