This bill mandates that if the Board of Education (the state board overseeing education) changes high school graduation requirements or the different paths students can take to earn a diploma, these new or changed requirements will only apply to students entering ninth grade at the start of or after the school year the changes take effect, specifically beginning with students entering ninth grade in the 2027-2028 school year. Additionally, the Board must post any such changes and related guidance online before the first school year of implementation, and students who entered ninth grade before these changes will still be able to graduate under the requirements that were in place when they started ninth grade, though they can opt to follow the new requirements if they choose. The bill also requires the Board to update its regulations by July 1, 2027, to reflect these new provisions.
