This bill amends Alabama law to grant transit authorities expanded powers, most notably authorizing them to participate in various business organizations, including as shareholders in corporations, partners in partnerships, or members of other lawful business entities related to transit operations or land acquisitions. This expansion also allows transit authorities to create, acquire, and operate for-profit or nonprofit subsidiaries and affiliates, and to provide financing for these business ventures. The bill also makes conforming changes to definitions, such as clarifying the role of a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and a Regional Planning Commission (RPC) in transportation planning, and adjusts language related to the fiscal year definition. The effective date for this act is October 1, 2026.
