This bill expands the crime of reckless endangerment by allowing charges when someone recklessly creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another individual or to multiple individuals, whereas previously it only applied to conduct that created a risk to "another person." It also establishes criminal penalties, classifying endangerment to a single individual as a Class A misdemeanor (a less serious criminal offense), but classifying endangerment to multiple individuals as a Class C felony (a more serious criminal offense), which can be elevated to a Class B felony if a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument is used. This act is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
