This bill amends existing law concerning the Department of Labor and Industries' (LNI) authority to regulate asbestos training, specifically by removing limitations on the director's ability to adopt rules. Previously, the director's authority to create rules for asbestos training was restricted to only what was specifically required to match federal standards. This bill removes that restriction, allowing LNI to enact rules for asbestos training that are as stringent as, or potentially more stringent than, applicable federal laws. The bill also makes a minor change to the appeal period for a denial, suspension, or revocation of a certificate, changing it from "fifteen" working days to "15" working days.
