This bill expands existing law to prohibit current or former officers, employees, or contractors of a political subdivision, which refers to local government entities like cities or counties, from the corrupt use of nonpublic information they obtained due to their government role. This means individuals in these positions cannot use confidential information for personal gain, to acquire or sell property affected by the information, to speculate, to benefit themselves or family members, or to disclose it to unauthorized individuals. Violating these provisions is a felony, punishable by fines and imprisonment, and will also result in being barred from holding public office or entering into contracts with a state agency or political subdivision. Furthermore, any violation will be grounds for termination from government employment.
