This bill requires the top official of every state department or agency, county government, municipal government, metropolitan government, and public college or university in Tennessee to annually submit a sworn statement, known as an attestation, to the state's comptroller of the treasury, confirming that their entity has not implemented any discriminatory preferences, which are policies that unfairly favor or disfavor certain groups, in an effort to promote diversity, equity, or inclusion. This attestation must be submitted by January 1st of each year, starting in 2027. Additionally, the bill grants the attorney general and reporter the authority to investigate any claims that these government entities are violating state laws by using such discriminatory preferences.
