This bill amends West Virginia law to require instruction in human growth and development in all public schools, including public charter schools, as part of health education. This new instruction, to be delivered through oral, written, or digital means, will focus on human biology related to pregnancy and fetal development. It will be taught in grades five and eight, and beginning in the 2028-2029 school year, the curriculum will specifically include a high-definition ultrasound video showing fetal development and a video from Live Action detailing fertilization and each stage of development inside the uterus. This addition supplements existing health education requirements which cover sexually transmitted diseases, substance abuse, healthy eating, physical activity, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.
