This bill amends Arizona law to increase the daily allowance, known as per diem, for legislators to cover their living expenses while on official business. Specifically, it changes the calculation for this per diem to be one hundred percent of the average of the six highest months of the annual federal per diem rate for Maricopa County, including lodging, as determined by the United States General Services Administration, with the Director of the Department of Administration responsible for setting this amount annually. The bill also adjusts the per diem for days served beyond the first 120 days of a regular legislative session, reducing it to fifty percent of the annually determined amount for members whose permanent residence is outside Maricopa County, while previously, members within Maricopa County received a flat $10 for these extended days. Legislators will continue to be reimbursed for travel at the federal mileage rate and can choose to opt out of receiving these subsistence payments.
