This bill establishes the "Missouri Integrated Safe Driving Program" to provide standardized driver education instruction and training for students in grades 9-12, with the goal of promoting safe driving habits and knowledge. The program, overseen by the department of elementary and secondary education, will make sample lessons available to public school districts and charter schools, which can then choose to implement the program starting in the 2027-28 school year. The curriculum will cover essential topics such as the requirements for obtaining driver's licenses under Missouri's graduated driver license law (chapter 302), developing safe driving attitudes and skills, understanding distracted driving, proper procedures for traffic stops and interactions with law enforcement, and current data on driver safety. While districts can require participation in these lessons, they are not mandated to include physical operation of a motor vehicle, and schools can still offer separate elective driver education courses. The state board of education is authorized to create necessary rules for the program's administration.
